Mechanism of medicine action:
Finasteride, a medication approved for treating benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and male pattern baldness, functions by inhibiting the enzyme responsible for converting testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT). By reducing DHT levels, it helps alleviate symptoms of BPH and slows hair loss. While generally well-tolerated, potential side effects include decreased libido and erectile dysfunction.
Side effects:
Finasteride may lead to side effects such as decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, and reduced ejaculatory volume. Additionally, some users report experiencing depression, anxiety, or breast tenderness. While rare, severe allergic reactions can occur.
Dosage:
The recommended dose is one 1 mg tablet daily regardless of meals.
